To my boys,
It was a crazy, crazy month. One in which I didn’t even have time to write this. I am squeezing time in between bath time and books, needing desperately to get these thoughts out.
These days when I pick you up from daycare, I can sometimes find you playing together. If you aren’t, the one who sees me first reminds me to pick up the other. NOW. Sean, you tell your brother that you are best friends and offer to hold his hand. Sometimes Connor agrees, sometimes not. Connor, you are in constant worry of what your Sean-Sean is doing. Where is he? What is he doing? Is he with his friends? Always on the lookout.
I want to remember this time, when you’re friends, when you seek each other’s company. While I hope that this bond continues, I know that it may not. I have seen families, siblings, drift apart. I wish every moment that you grow up together and stay close as you move into your own lives.
This is what I ask of you…remember to talk. Maybe not every day, but every week. Whether it be about the weather, what your kids are doing, or your annoying mother. Be open. Be frank. Be honest. Talk when you’re happy, when you’re sad, when you’re mad. It’s just you two, you against the world. Be there for each other through it all. Please, remember to talk.
